How to Identify Drywood Termites is an important question to ask before you begin removing infested wood from your home. If you see these pests in your home, you’ll need to know what to look for. Western drywood termites, also known as swarmers, leave irregular holes in the wood. They like sapwood because it is active in water conduction. The only other sign that you’ll need to watch for are winged termites or fallen wings.

The first sign of drywood termite infestation is the presence of winged reproductives. These insects emerge from the wood, as they swarm. These winged termites lose their wings immediately after swarming. The first way to tell if a termite infestation is widespread is to look for winged termites. If you notice winged reproductives inside of a structure, this is almost a guarantee that the infested wood contains structural timbers. If you see them outside, they may have come from nearby timber or brush.

Symptoms of drywood termites include holes in wood that look discolored or sealed. These holes are often the result of a larger infestation and may require fumigation or high-heat treatment to eliminate them completely. If you notice a nest of winged termites in your home, you’ll need to check it out as soon as possible. If you find a colony of winged termites, the damage is likely to be extensive.
