What You Should Know About Roof Rats

The first thing to know about Roof Rats is that they are not related to the fruit fly. Fruit flies are blood sucking insects and the female fruit fly lays thousands of eggs, while the male flies around, seeking out and feeding on whatever fruit is available. Roof rats prefer citrus trees. The citrus fruits provide them with lots of nectar, as well as moisture. If you can’t move your citrus trees to another area, at least try to clean up the tree (wash the fruit, remove the stems and peel off the pith) and then use vinegar or lemon juice to rid yourself of the pests. This will prevent future infestations and allow you to enjoy your citrus trees.
